Organize your map data into categories with ShowMyMap’s Group feature.
Each category or group will be identified by different markers so you and other viewers can look at and analyze the data systematically and with as little or as much information as you need.
Group your data by number ranges, by zip code or state, based on defined territories, according to a specific demographic, by sales team or sales rep, or any other custom attribute.
Select how your groups will be displayed. Choose a custom marker and assign a different color to each group. The grouping tool allows you to identify trends, patterns, areas of interest, and useful comparisons among your data points or groups.
How to Use ShowMyMap’s Grouping Feature
- Organize your raw map data on a spreadsheet so that they’re separated into columns according to your specified categories. When there are no specified categories, ShowMyMap automatically groups markers according to common elements.
- Copy and paste your map data into ShowMyMap’s map creation box, and then click “Create Map.”
- You’ll be taken to the “Geo Decoding section” where you will set your fields.
- Under “Map Fields,” set all applicable fields based on the map data you provided. Scroll down until you find the “Group By/Thematic Value” option; select “Group.”
- Under “Map Preview,” select how you want your data to be displayed on the map. Select how you want your markers to be labeled: no markers, with letters, or with numbers.
- Under “Customize Map,” select your preferred options, including the custom colors for your groups and custom markers.
- When you’re satisfied, click “Make Map.”
How to Use the Grouping Option
After you have created your map, the “Location Data” tab at the bottom of the map will allow you to select the group/s you want to appear. The grouping tool, therefore, also gives you the choice to limit the data shown on your map so that the markers/groups you don’t need won’t clutter your map.
View each group of markers separately, or a few of them together, to suit your purposes, such as for analyzing trends or studying sales numbers within/for a particular group or in comparison with other groups.
You can further customize how you visualize your map by applying the Heat Map feature when analyzing one or more groups or by choosing the Cluster feature to identify a group based on how many markers are within it.
Use the Radius tool to place a circle around a group (or an individual marker) with a defined radius starting from the specified location, i.e., the group or individual marker.
